IPL: Leveraging Multimodal Large Language Models for Intelligent Product Listing

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Unlike professional Business-to-Consumer (B2C) e-commerce platforms (e.g., Amazon), Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) platforms (e.g., Facebook marketplace) are mainly targeting individual sellers who usually lack sufficient experience in e-commerce. Individual sellers often struggle to compose proper descriptions for selling products. With the recent advancement of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), we attempt to integrate such state-of-the-art generative AI technologies into the product listing process. To this end, we develop IPL, an Intelligent Product Listing tool tailored to generate descriptions using various product attributes such as category, brand, color, condition, etc. IPL enables users to compose product descriptions by merely uploading photos of the selling product. More importantly, it can imitate the content style of our C2C platform Xianyu. This is achieved by employing domain-specific instruction tuning on MLLMs and adopting the multi-modal Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) process. A comprehensive empirical evaluation demonstrates that the underlying model of IPL significantly outperforms the base model in domain-specific tasks while producing less hallucination. IPL has been successfully deployed in our production system, where 72% of users have their published product listings based on the generated content, and those product listings are shown to have a quality score 5.6% higher than those without AI assistance.

Omneky Launches New "Product Generation Pro" Feature

#artificialintelligence

Omneky, a generative AI advertising platform, announced the launch of its latest innovation: the Product Generation Pro feature. Powered by Nvidia's GPUs, this new feature lets users generate new product images in any setting or perspective without the need for photo shoots. This advances the ability for Omneky to generate personalized ads at scale for e-commerce and companies with physical products. The tool leverages machine learning algorithms to automatically generate product images based on a set of example product images, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming photography sessions or graphic design work. Product Generation Pro allows customers to showcase their product in any setting or perspective, even with people wearing the products or interacting with them.

Bizarre Halloween Candy Courtesy of AI Tool Dall-E: Farte Cats, Anyone?

#artificialintelligence

The DIY art world hasn't been the same since the passing of Bob Ross (rest in peace in a forest of happy little trees, king), but AI art creation tool Dall-E at least offers an entertaining and quicker way to generate masterpieces that seem appropriate for the bizarro timeline we all now share. AI researcher Janelle Shane has made a hobby of prompting machine learning systems to engage in the 2022 equivalent of some very weird improv comedy. Her interactions with AI prompt plenty of hilarity -- including a charming set of Valentine's Day cards that almost work. Her latest bit is simply asking Dall-E to paint a picture of the most popular Halloween candies in each US state. The results are filled with lots of odd gibberish and overflowing with candy corn like any child's basket on Nov. 1 when all the good stuff from the previous night's haul has already been devoured. The first thing that becomes clear as Shane starts to work her way through all 50 states alphabetically is that Dall-E associates Halloween treats very strongly with candy corn, which is pretty fair given its abundance this time of year.

New AI-generated horsies

#artificialintelligence

Recently I've been experimenting with DALL-E 2, one of the models that uses CLIP to generate images from my text descriptions. It was trained on internet text and images, so there's a lot it can do, and a lot of ways it can remix the stuff it's seen online. I decided to have it generate new horsies. This is "Product photo of a breyer horse model of a guinea pig" I chose Breyer because the brand has been around so long that there are plenty of pictures of Breyer horses online, and also because they have a distinctive realistic style and matte plastic texture. These particular models never existed, though.

How to Automatically Remove Photo Backgrounds in Seconds With AI

#artificialintelligence

Initially, your original image is uploaded to Cloudinary, and then the add-on removes the background and replaces the original with a (transparent background) PNG. The original image is automatically backed up and can be easily recovered if needed.
